01 A New Hope

Reading Time: 3:00

A few years back I posted a weekly blog post on our website. As things changed I decided the readership was not enough to warrant the effort. However, as I prayed for more ways to get the Word out and to share my heart with others, the blogs I used to write kept coming to mind.

If nothing else, it was a way for me to clarify my thoughts and get things down on paper that I will probably never preach. Anyway, I hope to resume this discipline in 2020 and I pray it will bless someone, even if that someone is only me.

For many years in ministry I published a monthly newsletter, first as an evangelist, then through each church I pastored over 30 years. It too went by the wayside with declining readership and rising costs. I guess I never realized what an outlet it was for me to focus my thoughts and release burdens from my soul.

Well, this year I hope to restore that expression and fulfill that desire. This weekly blog post may just be for my benefit. However, I pray that others in our church and outside may glean something useful from this and may it inspire and direct their lives into the love of God and the blessings of his salvation.

I was almost at the place of taking down our unattended website when this urge began nagging at me. Almost everyone communicates through Facebook these days, so the usefulness of our website is questionable. Yet, if it disciplines me to express what God has laid on my heart on a weekly basis, it will serve a new purpose and give me a new hope that someone will read these posts and be helped by them.

Also, if nothing else, maybe it will inspire more and more people to pray for me as I finish the race that is laid out before me, the race of preaching the gospel to the next generation. I will be sharing more about this in upcoming posts. Let this post serve just to announce my intentions and invite you to join me on this journey.

I will create a link on Facebook each week so it will be convenient for people to visit our website and read this weekly blog post. I am going to try to keep its content to just a matter of minutes to read. I personally have shied away from reading really good material, just because it was too long to take in on a weekly basis.

Finally, I’ll also try to share from time to time how things are going with Susan and I and our personal lives. There will be a place for responses, so you can give me some feedback, or update us on how things are going with you.

Until next Monday, may the Lord bless and keep you safe in him.

Be strong and take heart, all you who hope in the Lord.”

Psalm 31:24 (NIV)
