What to Do, What to Do

(Reading Time: 2:45) It’s kind of funny to me that during a series at church entitled SEEK the LORD, I have been failing to do just that. I have been trying to figure out what to do about several situations in my life and in the church. I have been calculating and contemplating, all with little success. Then the Lord broke through to me. He said, “Why don’t you ask me what to do.” So this morning in the Prayer Tower I did.

I guess I expected to hear a thundering voice commanding me to move forward in faith. Maybe there would be a voice calling me to repentance. Maybe God would show me direction through his Word. However, all I heard was, “Wait and I’ll show you.” What? Lord, I’m tried of waiting. I’ve been waiting and waiting, and I still haven’t come up with an answer. Then it dawned on me, until this morning I hadn’t been waiting on the Lord because I hadn’t asked him yet.

I think this happens often in our lives. We think we are waiting on the Lord when he is actually waiting on us to ask. It’s terrible how we assume he should be doing something about a situation which we have never invited him into. We struggle and struggle and even get mad at God, but only afterwards do we realize we never really asked him what to do in the first place.

Now that God has brought this to my attention “AGAIN” I find two things have happened. One, I realized that I’ve been here before and I have done this exact same thing—expecting without asking. Two, after I asked and cast my care on him, my mind began to feel at peace once again.

So I’m going to try to remember this and use it for future reference—when I begin struggling and my mind begins searching for answers, it is time once again to ask the Lord. It’s a loaded question. It’s a simple question. It’s a scary question. Lord, what should I do?

The faith required in this situation is to walk away knowing that God can make his voice known to you once you ask. Do not be impatient and do not fear. He will show you what to do. He will confirm it is him you are hearing and not yourself or the enemy. He will also tell you in time to give you time to do what he said to do.

“You do not have, because you do not ask God.”

James 4:2, NIV.

I posted this verse outside the Prayer Tower to remind myself to ask God about the things that are on my mind each day. I want to encourage you to do the same, wherever you pray. With all of our praise, all of our intercession, all of our petitions and requests, don’t forget to ask God about what you should do in a given situation. It may mean the difference between victory and failure. It could mean all the difference in the world when it comes to relaxing in his arms.
